About Us
Generator Fabricators Ltd is a small marine electrical engineering and bespoke generator manufacturing company.
From its humble beginnings in 1939 as GE Webster, a marine electrical company originally located near the Auckland wharf in Parnell, the name Webster has become synonymous with quality workmanship, reliability and integrity.
The introduction of refrigerated containerised trade in the late 1960s opened up a unique opportunity for the company to expand into repairing ‘reefer’ containers and subsequently, invest in the beginnings of what was to become a comprehensive fleet of generators that could supply ships with the additional power these reefers demanded.
And so began the ongoing cycle of research and development that supported the building of generators that could withstand the harsh marine environment while providing sufficient power to safeguard millions of dollars worth of produce.
By 1990, GE Webster amalgamated with Auckland Generator Hire to become AGH Websters Ltd, and later, Webster Group Ltd, one of the areas largest generator hire companies, and New Zealand’s only supplier of specific GL (Germanischer Lloyd) standard marine compliant generators.
In 2018, current owner Tom Webster (son of founder Eric Webster), decided to focus his wealth of knowledge and experience on developing his marine generators to the next level – DNV (Det Norske Veritas) standard. He sold his 100-strong fleet of generators and reformed his company into what is now Generator Fabricators Ltd. Tom is now developing and fine-tuning prototypes of the next generation of marine compliant generators.
